New Year’s Resolutions
The direct:
get license, write more short stories, do more work for gov team, finish mural, do more than simply grade papers at Steps even when I am tired, speak up in class, stay in touch with both graduates and juniors, get out of bed earlier
The general:
Transparency To amend the discrepancy between who I appear to be and who I hope to be. Quote: Nancy Lam, “Jackie, I’m sorry, but you’re just not that transparent!“ Relating to Specific, Peculiar Expression To better convey what I wish to others. Write More: in scribbles in my notebook, in my diary, in this blog. To convey experiences, to render the Strange Familiar and Familiar Strange.
Lose Expectation; Gain Hope To let go of that which tends to go hand in hand with disappointment, in hopes of earning of that which goes hand in hand with the “triumph of spirit.” Essential to building Resilience To better adapt to change and not only accept but welcome mutability. Related to Appreciate and Savor To give value to and prolong enjoyment of pleasurable experiences.
Conciliation with Reality To throw away idealistic misconceptions in exchange for practicality. Qualification: does not include sacrificing principles nor does it discourage aspiration. Quote: Psychology Today,” If you want to snag a fish, you can’t just slap the water with your hand and yell, ‘Jump on my hook, already!’” Dependent on the Healthy Balance of Ethos, Logos, and Pathos.
Be Free, of Past Inhibitions Hesitate not to stray from habits that work only to hinder, rather than promote progress. Tradition fails to guarantee justification. To be exercised in conjunction with Letting Go of Trivialities To seek tranquility by seizing to worry about the common place, the irrelevant, or the frivolous. Earn tranquility through Patience.
Seek experiences Rather than the tangible, search for Resolve rather than hold on to an irrational notion of security. Be hindered not by transportation, depend not on others, but let others depend on you. Read Fervently Everything and anything. Devour books.
All in search of Improving Quality of Life!
